Active Okta Users Appear Deactivated in Slack
Lifecycle Management
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Overview

Users are active in Okta; however, they are showing as deactivated in Slack. Within Slack's Admin console, the affected user's account type shows as an invited member.

Applies To
  • Provisioning
  • Slack
Cause

An invited member's account becomes active when they accept their invitation and sign in to Slack workspace for the first time. Since users have not signed into Slack, they are still considered Deactivated.

Solution

Please refrain from manually managing users inside Slack when Slack is integrated with Okta for provisioning.

As a workaround, the Okta/Slack Admin can perform the following:

  1. Override the group (changing to the administrator for the assignment master).
    Edit User Assignment
  2. Unassign the Slack app from that user.
  3. Then, assign Slack back to that user individually.
  4. Convert the User assignment back to the Group assigned, if needed.
