uvj9u (uvj9u) asked a question.

Browser won't let me sign into G-Suite with non-work Okta accounts!

We are using Single Sign on (SSO) for G-Suite with Okta as the cloud based identity. There is no AD in our environment. The first time we enter an email address in the G-Suite/Gmail sign-in with an email based on our work domain, the user is forwarded over to Okta with our customized sign in screen. This is the way it should be.

However, if we go back to gmail.com, or click on the gmail link from the google search page, we are again forced over to our Okta page. This is before we even enter the account we want to sign into. So even if we want to sign in with a completely unrelated email address from our work/Okta domain, it sends us to Okta. This makes it impossible to sign in with other non-work email accounts from that browser.

Is there a way to get around this? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Paul,

Please check your cache settings on your browser. Have you tried to use an incognito window or private browser. What are the results when you switch to a different browser?

If you need additional assistance please do not hesitate to open an Okta Support case. Here is the Okta Support number 1-800-219-0964

When you say "check" your cache settings ... well they are still there. (Smile) But what should the settings be? What am I checking for?

We have the same issue but with a wrinkle: user is on a mac, using Safari. Can only get to his personal account using Private Browsing or an incognito window in Chrome. There must be some way around this.

Following-up with the previous comments. Is there a way w/o logging out of Okta and clearing my cache every time or going into Incognito that I can access the google admin suite for my other accounts?

  • uvj9u (uvj9u)

    Hey Evelyn,

I'm still seeing this and as an admin just go to Incognito/private browsing now. I also recommend to end users use one browser for work and one for personal as a long term solution.

Thinking this through it seems like the root of the problem is actually on the Google side of the SAML interaction. For whatever reason G-Suite isn't checking to see if the submitted end user account is in a domain with a SAML connection. Instead it just assumes that the previously used SAML connection for that browser is used for every account.

While the problem may be with Google it is only affecting us as OKTA SAML users and Okta should be pursing the developer side of things.

    Regards,

I am having the same issue not being able to sign in to my non OKTA account in Safari. Everything automatically redirects to OKTA!

      Louis,

The quick and dirty way to do this is to user the privacy mode of your browser. It's easier than resetting all of the cached data every time. Also, another approach is to use on browser in particular for your Okta account and another one for all of your other accounts.

      Not perfect ....

Fixed on my Safari Browser. I went in to my iphone settings App, scrolled down to the Safari and clicked on it, scrolled about half way down to the Blue "Clear History and Website Data" and clicked on it. went back to Safari and visited google.com and then clicked sign in and the Okta sign in page was gone. What a long process to figure out. This has been killing me for 5 months.

There HAS to be a better way around this. I keep getting requests to login to Okta for a company I haven't worked at in over 6 months!
