Oktane15: Product Announcements

Last week, we made a lot of exciting announcements at Oktane15.  In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at the features that were shown during the keynote along with expected availability dates.  Note that target dates are subject to change, so please check with your Okta representative for the latest on timing.
 
Provisioning
We announced several new capabilities in Okta Provisioning, which allows an organization to automate their identity lifecycle across apps and devices.
 
  • Group Membership Rules: a flexible rules engine that includes includes the ability to dynamically assign users to groups and provision them into apps based on any combination of attributes.
    Availability: Currently Available
    Required products / editions: Enterprise Plus or Provisioning product
  • Attribute Level Mastering and Workday Writeback: Attribute-level mastering capability that allows you to more granularly master user profile attributes from a variety of sources.  Leveraging this capability, we have also enhanced our Workday integration, made it bi-directional and added the ability to write back email and phone number attributes to Workday. This closes the loop by automating a key step in any HR driven IT provisioning process.
    Availability: Currently in Beta, Ready for Production – January 2016
    Required products / editions: Enterprise Plus or Provisioning product
  • Self-service app request and approval: end users can request new applications and you can empower business application owners to manage the process of approvals for app access and provisioning.
    Availability: Beta target – Feb 2016.  Ready for Production – Q2 2016
    Required products / editions: Enterprise Plus or Provisioning product 
  • “Suspended” user lifecycle state: a new intermediary state that removes user access without deprovisioning the account.  Perfect for contractor/partner use cases when you want to temporarily disable an account or when there’s a potential security threat.
    Availability: Beta target – Dec 2015.  Ready for Production – Q1 2016

  • Cloud Provisioning Connector SDK: An SDK that enables ISVs of any kind to easily build provisioning integrations to Okta.
    Java SDK Availability: currently available.  Contact oan@okta.com for more information.
     
 
Okta Mobility Management
We are expanding OMM with support for desktops and laptops, starting with Mac management.  We also announced deeper capabilities around native and mobile web apps to increase security and ease end user access.
 
  • OSX Mac management: security configuration and device management for Mac laptops and desktops.
    Availability: Beta Target – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Jan 2016.
    Required products / editions: Requires Okta Mobility Management
  • Enterprise App Store (private iOS apps): distribute your private iOS native mobile apps alongside apps from the Okta Application Network, offering a single point of distribution for all your apps.
    Availability: Beta Target – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Dec 2015
    Required products / editions: Requires Okta Mobility Management 
  • Mobile Web SSO (iOS): extends iOS Safari to automatically form fill a mobile web page with a login credential.
    Availability: Beta Target – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Jan 2016

  • Android for Work (5.x and higher): keep personal and work data separate by allowing you to choose how sensitive corporate data can be used and shared on an Android device.
    Availability: Beta Target – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Feb / Mar 2016

Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication
Okta Adaptive MFA is a comprehensive but simple strong authentication solution that provides policy driven contextual access management, supports a broad set of modern factors, and leverages big data insights from our network.  At Oktane, we announced new ways to assign MFA factors, to assign policy intelligently and to help address security and compliance needs.
 
  • Factor Enrollment Policy: assign factors based on role and context.  For example, you can assign required factors for out-of-office access and optional factors for in-network access or factors for different teams in your organization.
    Availability: Currently Available. 
    Required products / editions: Requires Adaptive MFA product
  • Multi-IP range policies: provide granular authentication permission based on IP range.
    Availability: Beta Target – Feb 2016.  Ready for Production – Q1 2016

  • Country-based login policy: Provide granular authentication permission based on location.
    Availability: Beta target – Q1 2016.  Ready for Production – Q2 2016

Platform
We made several platform announcements that will help make your next digital business initiative more social and easier to build with Okta functionality.
 
  • Open ID Connect: a modern approach to authentication built on OAuth 2.0 for single page web applications. 
    Availability: Beta target – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Q1 2016
  • Social Login: quickly add Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google auth to your app so consumers don’t need to create custom credentials. Instead, they can sign in with the credentials they already have with these social sites.
    Availability: currently in beta.  Ready for Production – Nov 2015
  • Sign-on widget: customize your login page, with login templates that allow you to easily build Okta functionality into your app. What used to take over a month for companies to build is now possible in less than 5 minutes.
    Availability: Now available.
 
Other announcements
  • System logs: we also announced new system log reports with rich search functionality, including user, event type, and location-based searches.
    Availability: Beta target – Q1 2016.  Ready for Production – Q2 2016.
  • Updated sign-in page: customize with your own branding.
    Availability: Beta – Nov 2015.  Ready for Production – Q1 2016.
