This month's Community Member Spotlight features a true Okta advocate and top Community member, Jeff Janovich from Carlisle Construction. Most recently, Jeff was awarded IT Pioneer at Oktane15 for the steps he’s taken to move his organization forward. Our Community is lucky to have him sharing his expertise! We hope you enjoy learning about how Jeff uses the Community, Ozone and OMM and somehow finds time to root for the Miami Heat in between all of this.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role
I have been with CCM since July 2014. I am the Office 365, Exchange and SharePoint Lead. I also manage our mobile device management, email security and of course Okta here at CCM.
How long have you been an Okta customer?
Since September 2014
How has your role evolved since first using Okta?
It has evolved more than I ever thought. After adding Okta to our portfolio, we were able to see the value and started asking ourselves what can we do next or where can we leverage this solution. We then added OMM to gain visibility of our mobile workforce and expanded our usage by utilizing the massive app catalog. While it added more work, the key thing, is that it made it seem less like work and more like fun because it made things easier.
What's your best advice for someone just starting with Okta?
Really look over your IT landscape and don’t just look at Okta as an SSO partner but look at the solution as your new ground floor for something that you can make great. And build up from its platform.
How would you describe your company culture?
Our company culture revolves around the customer. That can be external as well as internal. We all care about what we do and how we can all, as a whole, make the company better.
What keeps you coming back to the Okta Community?
The answer is in the name…..the Community. Okta is making so many advances in their solution on a weekly and even daily basis sometimes, it’s the best place to go for the news. Not only that, it’s such an active community where customers and employees go to truly help each other get better. It’s all about getting the most out of the solution and helping each other succeed and that’s what happens there.
Favorite Okta memory...
Favorite Okta memory would have to be when we started rolling out OMM. I started working with our pilot group walking them through the enrollment process. Everyone was ready for a lengthy get together not knowing the process. After about 2 minutes they were all enrolled and secure. They were in shock on how easy it was to use the solution and how quickly it took them from unsecure to secure.
Okta in one word/phrase...
This is a tough one. But I would use the phrase forward-thinking. Because they took an idea and quickly made it such a powerhouse in an industry that is always changing. And they always have an answer or new solution waiting in the wings.
Favorite technology (personal or business)
Cloud technology by far for so many reasons. For both personal and business.
What would you do without Okta?
I would be spending time trying to create more time in a day to get my work done.
Favorite travel destination...
Anywhere with my wife and kids in our RV.
Words to live by...
Don’t strive to make your presence noticed just make your absence felt.
Favorite sports team ...
Miami Heat and Atlanta Falcons
What was your favorite part of Oktane15?
Well this is a two-part answer, the first was being able to be involved and co-present a session on mobility management. That was awesome. But then also being awarded the IT Pioneer award was pretty great too ☺.
How do you stay up to date with technology news?
I use LinkedIn a lot to stay up to date with tech news and stay in contact and learn new things. And of course just reading on the internet.
