Hi Dean, it really depends on your use cases. If you have shared mailboxes, equipment mailboxes and linked mailboxes then Azure AD Connect tool provides the deepest integration.

So if these use cases are required, Okta would recommend (for now) to use the AAD Connect tool, and use Okta for License and Role management. In time Okta will support the wider range of use cases, and then you could switch from AAD Connect to Okta to perform all Sync, License management and of course SSO functionality.

Is this still the case? Do we need to do anything in Okta before we install the AAD tool within our environment?

I'm also keen to know whether AAD is still required now that the Universal Sync is available. Is there documentation that lists the impact on the exchange attributes?

I would  be interested to know as well.  The okta guide updated in 2017 states that by summer 2015 it won't be needed...
