How can we update the user name (from firstname.lastname@example.org to email@example.com) for all users that an application is already assigned to?
Due to a merger and name change, my company has added an alternate UPN to our domain. As a result, users' Okta logins have changed from firstname.lastname@example.org to email@example.com (the alternate UPN). This is working properly. My question is, for all of the users that already have a particular application assigned to them, how can we change their user name from firstname.lastname@example.org to email@example.com without having to manually change it individually for each user? I have tried unassigning the application from the group and then reassigning it, but that hasn't worked.

Based on your inquiry, you can leverage the Universal Directory (UD) feature by overriding the appUsername in Profile Editor or using Attribute Level Mastery (ALM) --if the alternate UPN is sourced from different directory/or master.
Okta Admin Dashboard > Directory > Profile Editor > select your appInstanceName i.e. Generic Radius App
