Users are unexpectedly prompted for a security image or question

Okta allows you to set optional user account fields for added security. If your admin has enabled a security image, you will be re-directed to the Okta Welcome Page. This happens even if they access applications through a service provider. On the Okta Welcome Page, end users will be prompted to select a security image and a forgot password security question.
 
If you see the Okta Welcome Page unexpectedly, you should:

  • Ask your admin to verify your company's optional user account fields.
  • Complete the actions on the Okta Welcome Page.

 
Admin task: verify Optional User Account fields.

  1. From the admin console, select Settings-> Customization->Optional User Account Fields.
  2. Click Edit to make changes, if desired.
  3. Click Save to save your changes.

End user task: select a security image and forgot password security question.

  1. From https://<yourcompanyname>.okta.com/user/welcome, select a security image, then click Create My Account.
Note: Clicking Create My Account does not affect your current account settings or permissions.

  1. Choose a forgot password question.
  2. Enter the answer.
  3. Click Create My Account.
Note: This also does not disrupt any current account settings you might have.
